Taxation of eBooks

This page is likely only relevant to you, if you are selling from within the EU.

In some European countries, sales of books are subject to reduced VAT. Since a decision in 2018, digital books (i.e. eBooks) are treated the same as their physical counterparts for tax purposes. Thus, the reduced taxation also applies to eBooks.

How will my eBooks be taxed correctly?

At Tentary, you don't have to worry about different tax rates on sales (click here for more info on taxation of digital products in Europe). We automatically calculate the correct sales tax and display it on your sales pages and invoices. Given you have configured your tax situation in your Tentary account.
If you want to sell an eBook, it is important that you activate the option "Treat product as e-publication" for every relevant product.

This setting lets us know that your product is an eBook, and we can therefore automatically apply the reduced sales tax when you sell it.

On the following page, you will find an overview of the tax rates for eBooks in Europe.
