Create and send email automations

On this page, you will learn everything about how to create and activate an email automation.

An automation consists of multiple emails that are automatically sent to a pre-defined target audience at specific times.

Create Automation

Log in to your Tentary account and go to the Email page. Then click on the "New Automation" button.

Name

Give your automation a name. The name is only visible to you and helps you organize your messages.

Trigger

Specify who should receive the messages of this automation or for what action they should be "triggered".

The following options are available:

  • If someone subscribes to your mailing list
  • If someone purchases any product
  • If someone purchases any of the following products (please select)

Once the name and trigger have been selected, you can create the automation.

Create Emails for an Automation

The previously created automation provides the framework that defines the target audience of the automation. Next, you can add individual emails that will be automatically sent to the target audience at specific times.

Click on the "Add Email" button.

Name

Give your email a name. The name is only visible to you and helps you organize your messages.

Schedule

Determine when this email should be sent. For example, directly after the trigger criteria is met, or x days later.

Email

Everything you enter here will be visible to the recipients of your message. Specify the subject of your email and write the actual email text.

The text field allows the use of the following formatting:

  • normal text
  • bold
  • italic
  • underlined
  • strike-through
  • quotes
  • heading 1
  • heading 2
  • heading 3
  • unordered list
  • ordered list
  • links

Since emails are displayed differently on almost every device and software, currently only certain formatting options are allowed for the text. Before sending emails, any faulty formatting, such as from copying and pasting, will be automatically removed.

Once your email is ready, you can save it, delete/discard it, send a test to yourself, or activate it.

For test messages, we use the email address of your account (the address you log in to your Tentary account with). The test message is similar to what your subscribers will receive.

Activate Email Automation

Important: To ensure that your automations are actually sent, it is necessary for both the automation itself and the desired emails (belonging to the automation) to be activated.

Once your automations are active, they will be automatically sent to email subscribers at the chosen times who meet the respective criteria.

In the image below, you can see an example where an automation and 2 emails are activated. In this example, every buyer receives the "Welcome Email" shortly after their purchase. On the seventh day after the purchase, each buyer also receives the "Did You Know? Reminder" email at 4:00 PM

Notes

  • Automations are currently not applied retrospectively. That means, an automation will only be applied to new purchases, etc. from the moment it is activated.
  • In the event that the criteria of an automation would cause a subscriber to trigger the same automation multiple times, it will only be sent once. In other words, no subscriber will receive an email twice.
