How do discount codes work?
You can issue discount codes (vouchers) for your products that you sell through Tentary.
With these individual discount codes, customers can get a discount on your products. Discounts can result in a percentage discount as well as an absolute discount in dollars/euros. Furthermore, discounts can be valid for all your products or only a certain selection.
More information about creating and setting up discounts can be found below.
When a discount is applied, the correct sales tax is automatically calculated as usual and the (discounted) amount appears on invoices. In your
sales overview and in purchase notifications, you will find an indication if and what discount has been used.
How can discount codes be created?
To create a discount, first log in to your
Tentary account. Click on the link to the "Discounts" page in the menu and then click on the "New Code" button. The screenshot below shows the view for a new discount code.
You can set the following settings for your discount code:
- Code: The actual discount code that customers will need to enter; you can set a code yourself (e.g. "SALE2022") or have a code generated using the icon next to the input field.
- Discount + Type: Set the amount and type of discount here (e.g. $7.50 or 25 %)
- Products the discount code is applicable to
- Limit how often discount code can be activated
- Limit validity period for discount code
After you have made all the desired settings, you can save and share the discount code.
How can discount codes be redeemed?
Your customers can easily redeem discount codes on the payment pages for your products. Below the amount to be paid, there is a link with the inscription "add discount". By clicking on the link, a text field is displayed in which discount codes can be entered. Finally, to activate a discount, the "check" link must be clicked.
Activated discount codes will be displayed in the order summary (see screenshot below). The discount will be applied automatically, and the amount payable will be adjusted accordingly.
If the total amount to be paid drops to 0 due to a discount, the payment options will be hidden and the purchase can be completed without entering payment details. If the calculated total amount is between 0 and 0.99, the amount to be paid will be rounded to 1. The reason for this is the minimum amount for payments.
Add discount codes directly via URL
Another way to use discount codes is to include them directly via a URL parameter. This allows you to share links where the discount code is automatically applied when someone uses the link.
To do this, simply add ?coupon=YOURDISCOUNTCODE
at the end of the URL of the sales or payment page.
For example, if you have a discount code like NEWCUSTOMER2024
, the shared link could look like this: https://yourshop.tentary.com/p/ABCDEF?coupon=NEWCUSTOMER2024
. Customers who use this link will automatically receive the corresponding discount.
This method is ideal for spreading your discount promotions on social media, emails, or other marketing channels.
